NFC card

The “design” of NFC tags refers to the physical form in which the tag is manufactured and used. Here are some common designs and their applications:

Bracelet-style
NFC tags are useful for applications such as event registration, access control, and payment systems.

Coins
These are round NFC tags that are often used for contactless payments, access control, and loyalty programs.

NFC
tags with a built-in display can show dynamic information, such as balances, promotions, or temporary codes, and are often used in interactive marketing or access control.

Card-shaped NFC
tags are ideal for access control, identification, and payment systems, similar to credit cards.

Key chain
NFC tags are handy for personal identification, access control, and loyalty programs.

NFC stickers
can be attached to items such as products, posters, or packaging for interactive marketing, product authentication, and informational applications.

Tags
This is a general term that refers to NFC tags of various shapes and sizes, which are used for a wide range of applications, from inventory management to smart devices.

Choosing the right model depends on specific use cases, durability requirements, and ease of use in various environments.

ABS
A sturdy and durable plastic that is highly resistant to wear and tear, often used for robust NFC tags.

Epoxy-
A clear, resin-based coating that protects NFC tags from moisture and mechanical damage, making them suitable for outdoor environments.

FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit)
A flexible printed circuit that makes it possible to integrate NFC tags into curved or complex shapes, such as smart cards.

Coated paper
Paper coated with a protective layer, ideal for cost-effective NFC tags such as labels and cards.

PPS
A durable and heat-resistant polymer suitable for NFC tags exposed to high temperatures.

PVC -
A commonly used material due to its flexibility and resistance to chemicals; often used for NFC cards and tags.

Silicone-
A flexible and water-resistant material that protects NFC tags from extreme environmental conditions, such as those found in industrial applications.

Wood / Metal
: A unique, luxurious look. Often chosen for premium applications.

NFC tags have a certain amount of storage space, expressed in bytes, known as “capacity.” This capacity determines how much data the tag can store. This can range from small amounts, suitable for simple data such as URLs or short text, to larger amounts that can contain more complex information. When choosing an NFC tag, it’s important to consider the required capacity to ensure that all the desired information fits on the tag.

The chip type refers to the technology and frequency at which the tag operates. Different chip types have different applications and characteristics:

125 kHz
This frequency is often used for simple applications such as access control and identification. It has a limited read range and data capacity.

• T5577
A programmable 125 kHz chip compatible with multiple protocols. Commonly used for access control where flexibility is required.

• EM4200
A widely used passive 125 kHz chip with a fixed ID, ideal for simple identification applications.

• TK4100
An affordable and popular 125 kHz alternative for simple RFID systems such as keychains or access cards.

13.56 MHz – NFC / HF
This frequency is used for smart applications such as NFC, access control, and contactless payments. The tags operate at short ranges and provide reliable communication with smartphones and other readers.

• MIFARE Classic 1K
This type operates at 13.56 MHz and offers greater storage capacity (1 kilobyte) and enhanced security features. It is often used in public transportation, access control, and loyalty programs.

• NTAG213
One of the most commonly used NFC chips with 180 bytes of memory (NDEF: 137 bytes). Suitable for URLs, contact information, or small actions via smartphones.

• NTAG215
Has more memory than the NTAG213 (540 bytes, NDEF: 492 bytes). Popular for Amiibo and other applications that require a little more space, among other things.

• NTAG216
The version with the most memory in the NTAG family (924 bytes, NDEF: 888 bytes). Perfect for more complex applications.

• NTAG424 (NTAG424 DNA)
Advanced chip with high security (AES-128 encryption) and extensive features. Often used for product authentication and secure applications.

• MIFARE Ultralight
: An affordable, low-capacity chip, ideal for single-use tickets or low-cost applications.

• MIFARE Ultralight C
variant with enhanced security via 3DES authentication. Suitable for simple applications requiring increased security.

• MIFARE DESFire EV3 2K / 4K / 8K
Advanced chips with 2, 4, and 8 kilobytes of memory, respectively, optimized for complex security and data structures. Widely used in public transportation, access control, and government applications.

• MIFARE DESFire EV3 (general)
Known for its high security, fast transactions, and versatility. Often used in combination with mobile access systems or smart city applications.

• HITAG 2
A versatile chip with strong security and read/write functionality. Used in vehicle identification, industrial systems, and access control.

UHF 860–960 MHz
Ultra High Frequency (UHF) tags have a much greater read range and can read multiple tags at once. They are often used in logistics, inventory management, and other applications where fast, bulk reading is required.

Conclusion
: Choosing the right chip type depends on the specific requirements of the application and the environment in which the tags will be used. Consider read range, storage capacity, security, and compatibility with existing systems. At NFC World, we’re happy to help you make the right choice.
